A major boost for Brisbane’s hotel and accommodation industry today with the news the city will host the G20 summit in 2014 .
The event, which is expected to bring in thousands of delegates as well as media personnel to the city, is expected to reverse the fortunes of many hotel providers who have been experiencing a steady decline in occupancy rates since the global financial crisis began in 2007.
An excited Richard Munro, CEO of the Accommodation Association of Australia, believes that while the date of the summit is too close to see many new properties constructed in time it will be a fabulous opportunity to highlight the range of hotels already on offer in the city.
‘It’ll be a real chance for Queensland to showcase itself as a serious event holder’ said Mr Munro who also confirmed his opinion that accommodation providers would inevitably refurbish or reinvest in their existing properties in the lead-up to the conference.
The G20 summit is also likely to be good news for the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast who are also expected to benefit from this high profile gathering.
